Alt-J are an English indie rock quartet, formed in 2007 in Leeds, England.
Their debut album An Awesome Wave was released in May 2012 in
Europe and September 2012 in the United States and won the
2012 British Mercury Prize.

Name Origin:
The band's name is actually the delta sign Δ.
The symbol can be typed on an Apple Mac OS X by the using the key sequence alt + J,
which is how they came up with the name.
The delta sign is traditionally used in
scientific studies to indicate "change" or "difference".
