Got a cold shirt on my back cause it's been raining
And my shoes are thin from walking way to long
Been running since the night I pulled the trigger
And the noose around my neck is nearly gone
The deputy's been asking lots of questions
The posters on the wall show my face
Momma buried my gun down in the corner
Of the old red barn down by the Wilson's place
The night I left my home I kissed my babies
I took my wife and held her when she cried
I jumped a train headed south to Texas
To find some no name town where I can hide
Everybody knows I'm guilty
I know what I done was right
He may have been my only brother
Brother it was one too many times
Someday when my children ask their mother
"How come dad left us and left this town?"
She just might take em' down to Wilson's red barn
And dig up my old gun that's in the ground
