Freddie explained: "I thought up the name Queen. It's just a name, but it's very regal obviously, and it sounds
splendid. It's a strong name, very universal and immediate. It had a lot of visual potential and was open
to all sorts of interpretations. I was certainly aware of gay connotations, but that was just one facet of it."

The Original incarnation was called "Smile" after the turnover of bandmembers they finally formed
a cohesive group with the addition of John Deacon in 1971.
Trademark:
The band's crest which has zodiac signs of all four members surrounding a Phoenix - two lions, to represent two Leos (Roger Taylor and John Deacon), a crab for Cancer representing Brian May, and fairies representing Virgo for Freddie Mercury.
