So cruel, the larks
Played by the vicious Earth
No mind could conceive of the hate
That it harbors
That which provides
May so easily consume
When that which is consumed
Provides a hidden peril
Blessings so rare
From the land that spares no anguish
Clear, healing waters
That will slake our crippling thirst
Like animals descending
On a newly slaughtered carcass
We revere in our fortune
With unprecedented bliss
Our mouths agape
Our hands, like chalices, newly filled
We consume with shameless fervor
Collapsing, truly satiated
For a prolonged moment it seems
That our pain has had purpose
This token will carry us through the next relentless torment
But now this gift, it seems
Was but a poisoned sweet
Elation turns to horror
As the venom makes its presence known.
Too small to be revealed until it had deeply infiltrated
We invited this into ourselves and now we are defeated
Our weakened forms
Too weathered to withstand the storm
Like fire through a forest, one by one they are all taken
I fall to my knees and scream
Though I know that no one hears
I am alone I am alone
In this damned, cursed land
