Autumn comes
And as our squares of green turn to gold
The march begins
Here they come
They're circling the gardens and the parks
The upside-down giraffes
Are marching at your door
Their hooves reach for the sky
Their heads stamp on the floor
They say
They've been there all along
Plotting, scheming, biding their time
They say
This is where they belong
They will make us pay for our crimes
Some say
They have never heard of them
Hiding in plain sight without a sound
Some say
We should not be scared of them
Can't you see them stomping all around?
The upside-down giraffes
Have come to claim their land
And on the streets they make
Their downside-up last stand
Their heads upon the pavement
Some whisper and some pound
They're passing down instructions
To the armies underground
The concrete cracks open
They swarm out like ants
We're giving up hope and
The whole tower chants
It happened so fast
It was unexpected
All around the world now
They're feared and respected
"We'll laugh at this someday"
You comforted me
Well, it's been years, and nobody laughs
When you look
And, as far as the eye can see
All that remains are giraffes
