I saw a stone the color of the moon
Rounded by water, polished like a spoon
I reached down to take the stone from the sand
So I could hold the moon in my hand
We walk along the beach of memory
Stretching from childhood up until the sea
Gathering things that we find along the way
For us to look back on someday
I was a little girl not so long ago
Playing in the waves that crash up on the land
Now as the tide comes in to cover up the stones
We leave behind two sets of footprints in the sand
So little changes of the gentle shore
Time never takes away, it just goes back and forth
But I've been walking in a straight, narrow path
And when I change, I can't change back
We have gone so many golden miles
And there is a woman now where once there was a child
Looking for moons as they shine through the foam
And holding on to them as long as they will glow
I was a little girl not so long ago
Playing in the waves that crash up on the land
Now as the tide comes in to cover up the stones
We leave behind two sets of footprints in the sand
We leave behind two sets of footprints in the sand
