I grew up thinking that love would always hurt
A home felt more like a house
So I started associating love with leaving
Looking in the wrong places
Thinking it would satisfy
But it just left me empty again
So I made a simple prayer
Lord, I know You're out there
Heal me like nothing else can
You brought me out of the darkness
And my heart is no longer plastered
I am finally free and I'm able to see
How a real love should be
As I grew older I think love isn't as bad as it seems
Now love feels like a home
So I began to see how every hurt and pain
Was meant to grow me
And I've learned to be contented with everything
You have given and provided for me
So I made a simple prayer
Lord, I know You're out there
You've healed me like nothing else can
You brought me out of the darkness
And my heart is no longer plastered
I am finally free and I'm able to see
How a real love should be
This is how a real love should be
Unconditional, unfailing love
That is patient, kind and forgiving (patient, kind and forgiving)
A love that covers all (covers all)
A love that never leaves (never leaves)
How great this love has transformed me
Lord, I know you're out there
You've healed me like nothing else can
You brought me out of the darkness
And my heart is no longer plastered
I am finally free and I'm able to see
How a real love should be
