American Zen - My Mockingbird Poem Lyrics

American Zen - My Mockingbird Poem Lyrics
Official

My mockingbird had lovely new mate this year
They flew together everywhere
Was he loving and protecting her
Or was she staying close out of fear
What matters most, they were a team
Flitting happily from tree to tree
Fresh feathered new ones
A chirping happy family
The future was bright
So it seemed
Feathers strewn on my front doorstep
Unveil the sad new tale
Another relationship ending in a bloody trail
My mockingbird must once again accept
That women are tasty easy prey
For sharks disguised as cats
Love is food, whether a bird or a rat
I recognize that mockingbird's song
Perched alone today
Is what is left behind
The reward of those who stay?
