The Ashen Cabaret - Wooden Marvel Lyrics
Official

Just beside the riverbank
Past the blacksmith and his stable
They called up to build the factory
All young men who were able
Proud smokestacks rose into the night
"Great prosperity for all!"
With spinning gears and brass tanks full
Their factory stood tall
"A miracle from modern minds"
The breathless papers spoke
A hundred men arrived in town
To take up the factory's yoke
Wooden marvel 'til it wasn't
Pipes clanging through the night
An offering to false futures
Our town would not survive
Belching smoke and spewing fire
The factory shook with steam
Foamtopped oily liquid gushed out
From a pipe into the stream
The foreman in his top hat
Dismissed our leery talk
Having drunk from the black river
Lo a crippled man now walked!
But we never were to meet this man
As our skin puckered with rash
As the herds died and the crops failed
And the wheat turned into ash
Wooden marvel 'til it wasn't
Pipes clanging through the night
So we loaded up our wagons
But did not escape the blight
We buried our daughters and mothers
With flower petals under cross
The factory was impartial
To the scope of what we'd lost
All too weak to take up arms
All bloody cough and bone
They say the factory must grow now
And took axes to our homes
And the foreman built a grand house
On the graves where wild grass grew
He lie enrobed in golden silk
When the sickness claimed him too
Wooden marvel 'til it wasn't
We beg learn from our ends
Wooden marvel 'til it wasn't
And may it never be again
May it never be again
Never again
Never again
Wooden marvel never again
