Walking home in the summer heat, with the lake a fiery spread
I don't recognize these streets nor the city nor the beat of my own steps
Every face that approaches me seems to disappear instead
The only thing in focus is the lonely spark of someone's cigarette
But the day goes on and the night's forever falling
I keep going
On and on ahead
Dissociating, dissipating, echolessly calling
Daylight turning
To red
On the sidewalk papers tell that that the coast is up in flames
On the screens, there is water rising, scores are dying, though it's all the same
Why mend a mind if we were better off insane?
Why mind the heat if after fire we'll have forty days of rain?
Mirror, mirror, tell me, who's the last of all?
When the show is over, who'll be sitting here to watch the curtain fall?
If I light a fire too, will it burn to keep me warm?
If this dream ain't all a dream what will I see here at the break of dawn?
When the lights go on and the blinds go down
They're dancing
Trying to forget
Disintegrating, dissipating, drowning
While above them
The moon is rising red
Shine on for me, my lonely star!
Don't you die on me - just let me keep faith from afar!
Save you light for me, my lonely star!
Fly on over to me and shine when it all falls apart!
A little brightness for me
When everything else goes dark ...
Lead me over ... Cut me out
Go on under ... Make no sound
Feel the hollowness and the empty night sky
Cresting above me
Lonely in my bed
Infatuating, dissipating, falling
Into nothing
And everything turns red
Shine on for me, my lonely star
Don't you die on me - just let me keep faith from afar
Save you light for me, my lonely star
Fly on over to me and shine when it all falls apart
A little brightness for me
When everything else goes dark
Shine on for me my lonely star
Don't you die on me
When everything else goes down
When everything, everything, everything else goes down
