The Bangles - Different Light Album Lyrics

The Bangles - Different Light Lyrics

Manic Monday

Six o'clock already
I was just in the middle of a dream
I was kissin' Valentino
By a crystal blue Italian stream
But I can't be late
'Cause then I guess I just won't get paid
These are the days
When you wish your bed was already made

It's just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
'Cause that's my fun day
My I don't have to run day
It's just another manic Monday

Have to catch an early train
Got to be to work by nine
And if I had an aeroplane
I still couldn't make it on time
'Cause it takes me so long
Just to figure out what I'm gonna wear
Blame it on the train
But the boss is already there

It's just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
'Cause that's my fun day
My I don't have to run day
It's just another manic Monday

All of my nights
Why did my lover have to pick last night
To get down
(Last night, last night)
Doesn't it matter
That I have to feed the both of us
Employment's down
He tells me in his bedroom voice
C'mon honey, let's go make some noise
Time it goes so fast
(When you're having fun)

It's just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
'Cause that's my fun day
My I don't have to run day
It's just another manic Monday
I wish it was Sunday
'Cause that's my fun day
It's just another manic Monday

In A Different Light

I see you in a different light
I see you in a different light.

I wanna make a movie
I wanna put you on the silver screen
Sit in a darkened room and look at you from a distance.

Wanna write a novel
Freeze all your expressions into words
I come back later and read about what I should've heard.

I see you in a different light
I see you in a different light
Different light.

I wanna paint your portrait
And hang your colors on my wall
Discussing form and content with my friends and drinks and no one thinks at all.

I see you in a different light
I see you in a different light.

I see you in a different light
I see you in a different light
Different light.

Walking Down Your Street

Oooh, oh I've had sleepless nights
Toss and turn, wake up burning
For what you inspire.

So, I'm gonna walk right down your street
With a love that I can't hide
I've got one thing on my mind
Yeah, I'll even sacrifice my pride, 'cause I want you.

Oooh, oh how I wish you would be mine
My pulse is weak, I'm blushing brighter
Then a valentine.

'Cause I've been walking down your street
With a love that I can't hide
I've got one thing on my mind
Yeah, I'll even sacrifice my pride.

'Cause I can't stop the way I feel
So, I'll keep walking on, 'cause I want you.

(Walking...down...down...down your street
Walking...down your street)
Walking...down your street (walking)
Down your street (walking...down...down...down)
Oh no (walking) oh-woe-oh.

I can't stop the way I feel
So, I'll keep walking on.

Walking down your street
With a love that I can't hide
Oh, I've got one thing on my mind
Yeah, I'll even sacrifice my pride ('cause I want you).

Walking down your street
With a love that I can't hide
Yeah, I've got one thing on my mind
Yeah, I'll even sacrifice my pride ('cause I want you).

Walking down your street
With a love that I can't hide
Oh, I've got one thing on my mind
Yeah, I'll even sacrifice my pride ('cause I want you).

Walk Like An Egyptian

All the old paintings on the tombs
They do the sand dance don't you know?
If they move too quick (oh whey oh)
They're falling down like a domino

All the bazaar men by the Nile
They got the money on a bet
Gold crocodiles (oh whey oh)
They snap their teeth on your cigarette

Foreign types with the hookah pipes say
(Whey oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh)
Walk like an Egyptian

The blonde waitresses take their trays
They spin around and they cross the floor
They've got the moves (oh whey oh)
You drop your drink, then they bring you more

All the school kids so sick of books
They like the punk and the metal band
When the buzzer rings (oh whey oh)
They're walking like an Egyptian

All the kids in the marketplace say
(Whey oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh)
Walk like an Egyptian

Slide your feet up the street, bend your back
Shift your arm then you pull it back
Life is hard you know (oh whey oh)
So strike a pose on a Cadillac

If you wanna find all the cops
They're hanging out in the donut shop
They sing and dance (oh whey oh)
They spin the clubs, cruise down the block

All the Japanese with their yen
The party boys call the Kremlin
And the Chinese know (oh whey oh)
They walk the line like Egyptian

All the cops in the donut shop say
(Whey oh whey oh, ay oh whey oh)
Walk like an Egyptian
Walk like an Egyptian

Standing In The Hallway

Standing in the hallway
Trouble coming my way
He called me on the telephone
Guess I'm gonna be alone.

Where did our love go, where did it go
Love is such a puzzle in this great big world
I'm good to you but you're bad to me
Gotta try to lose, gotta try, gotta lose this misery.

Tried to do it your way
You wouldn't meet me halfway there
You used to say you loved me
Now you just sit and stare.

Where did our love go, where did it go
Love is such a pain in this great big world
I'm good to you but you're bad to me
Gotta try to lose, gotta try, gotta lose this misery.

If you wanna keep me here
You better try to make it clear
'Cause I'm halfway out the door
I can't take it anymore.

Where did our love go, where did it go
Love is such a gamble in this great big world
I'm good to you but you're bad to me
Gotta try to lose, gotta try, gotta lose this misery.

Return Post

Writing the lines as they come to me
Scratching them out almost immediately
Don't know what it's done to me.

Well, it's cold, it's wet and it's been raining all night
And there's a letter I've been trying to write
Something better waiting somewhere for me.

One of them is sitting on the wrong coast
One awaits an answer by return post
Waiting, waiting (waiting)...

Try to remember how long it's been
When there was more to us then paper and pen
Think how easy it is to conceal.

And I know when we're together again
We'll be strangers for an hour and then
We'll have to figure out if this thing is real.

And one of them is sitting on the wrong coast
One awaits an answer by return post
Waiting, waiting (waiting)...

Cold and wet and rain all night
There's a letter I gotta write
Something better is waiting for me.

One of them is sitting on the east coast
One awaits an answer by return post
Waiting, waiting (waiting)...

And take a drink and staring out the window
Wondering how long this can continue
Waiting, waiting...

If She Knew What She Wants

If she knew what she wants
(He'd be giving it to her)
If she knew what she needs
(He could give her that too)
If she knew what she wants
(But he can't see through her)
If she knew what she wants
He'd be giving it to her
Giving it to her

But she wants everything
(He can pretend to give her everything)
Or there's nothing she wants
(She don't want to sort it out)
He's crazy for this girl
(But she don't know what she's looking for)
If she knew what she wants
He'd be giving it to her
Giving it to her

I'd say her values are corrupted
But she's open to change
Then one day she's satisfied
And the next I'll find her crying
And it's nothing she can explain

Some have a style
That they work hard to refine
So they walk a crooked line
But she won't understand
Why anyone would have to try
To walk a line when they could fly

No sense thinking I could rehabilitate her
When she's fine, fine, fine
She's got so many ideas traveling around in her head
She doesn't need nothing from mine

Let It Go

One thing or another
Your head is filled with questions, sights and sounds
Distractions always get you down
Turn around...trying to remember
Where you were the day before
North and south and east and west
Where to go.

When it's over
When it's done
Let it go.

Frightened by the numbers
All the possibilities
Changing minds, you hope to find
One more dream to remind you
What is lost can always be regained
Oooh.

When it's over
When it's done
Let it go.

When it's over (when it's over)
When it's done
When it's over (when it's over)
When it's done
Let it go.

September Gurls

September gurls do so much
And for so long, 'til we touched
I love you, boy nevermind
I've been crying all the time.

December boys got it bad
December boys got it bad.

September gurls, I don't know why
How can I deny what's inside
Even though I keep away
They will love all our days.

December boys got it bad
December boys got it bad.

When I get to bed late at night
That's the time he makes things right
Ooh, when he makes love to me
Oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh.

September gurls do so much
And for so long, 'til we touched
I loved you, boy nevermind
I've been crying all the time.

December boys got it bad
December boys got it bad
December boys got it bad
Oooh, oooh, oooh.

Oooh, oooh, oooh
Oooh, oooh, (oooh) oooh
Oooh, oooh, oooh.

Angels Dont Fall In Love

I saw you today
She's lovely you're such a heavenly pair
You hope and you pray
Someday she'll take you all the way there.

You should know better, darling (you should know)
When push comes to shove
Angels don't fall in love.

You stand at the gate (and there you wait)
Hoping to gain admission
How long are you willing to wait (and wait and wait)
She won't give permission tonight.

You should know better, darling (you should know)
When push comes to shove
Angels don't fall in love, no no no.

You've got your higher aims
Got your ambitions
You think you're spiritual
And on some mission.

Well, I can see it
When I look in your eyes
When you think of love
You think of compromise.

It's no big disgrace
There's no loss of grace
The trouble is there's always
Someone there to take your place.

And the trouble is
You don't believe that it's true
When the sun goes down
There's something left for you.

The trouble is
I see you missing so much (trouble is)
While you're knocking on all the wrong doors (trouble is)
Looking for some angel's touch (trouble is).

You think she's (trouble is)
Everything you're dreaming of (trouble is)
The trouble is (trouble is)
Those angels never fall in love (trouble is).

(Trouble is...trouble is)
(Trouble is...trouble is).

Following

You think I'm crazy or something
Always following you around
You say I'm a hopeless case
Run an obsession into the ground.

You call me a loser
You call me a shadowing fool
Look over your shoulder
And you say I'm haunting you.

So why do you call me
Why do you look for me
Why do your eyes follow me the way they do.

You hold me responsible
Yeah, so I stand accused
Of causing all the trouble after high school
Between him and you.

Yeah, you call me a loser
You call me a shadowing fool
But I was a good girl
Yeah, 'til you taught me what it means to be true.

Why do you call me
Why do you look for me
Why do your eyes follow me the way they do.

Why do you call me
I know you look for me
Why do your eyes follow me the way they do.

Not Like You

Busted down and broken all in two
But you never thought this would happen to you
Wake up and stumble, trip and fall
You had so much and now you've lost it all.

How could you do it (how could you do it)
It's not like you
To be the one to lose
Why did you do it (why did you do it)
It's not like you
But I'll be around for you.

Such a sad and sorry twist of fate
You tried to change but it's too late
If you ever find out what you do
Well, then it'll all come back to you.

How could you do it (how could you do it)
It's not like you
To be the one to lose
Why did you do it (why did you do it)
It's not like you
But I'll be around for you, yes.

Busted down and broken all in two
But you never thought this could happen to you
Wake up and stumble, trip and fall
You had so much and now you've lost it all.

How could you do it (how could you do it)
It's not like you
To be the one to lose
Why did you do it (why did you do it)
It's not like you
But I'll be around for you, yeah.
