The Beaches - Late Show Album Lyrics

The Beaches - Late Show Lyrics

Back of My Heart

I can see it coming in the distance
I can feel you walking through
For miles and miles and miles
You shake your head and say
I don't know what you were thinking
'Cause you don't belong here at all
You're just an insult to my eyes and ears and mouth

I can feel you tapping on the brick wall
I can hear you kick and yell
And tell me to come down
But I think I'm gonna stay here for a while

I know things are looking up
I don't know how long, I'll try my luck
I just know someday, I'm gonna get there
So don't hold me back, just hold me up
I can take a hit, I can take a punch
'Cause today's the day, I'm gonna get there

From the back of my heart
I'm gonna get there
To the back of your heart
I'm gonna get there

And I know that you're just trying to change my mind
Say you're such a progressive thinker
But you don't understand
You can't just sit up there, you gotta give me a chance

I know things are looking up
I don't know how long, I'll try my luck
I just know someday, I'm gonna get there
So don't hold me back, just hold me up
I can take a hit, I can take a punch
'Cause today's the day, I'm gonna get there

From the back of my heart
I'm gonna get there
To the back of your heart
I'm gonna get there
I'm gonna get there

I know things are looking up
I don't know how long, I'll try my luck
I just know someday, I'm gonna get there
So don't hold me back, just hold me up
I can take a hit, I can take a punch
'Cause today's the day, I'm gonna get there

From the back of my heart
I'm gonna get there
To the back of your heart
I'm gonna get there
From the back of my heart
I'm gonna get there
To the back of your heart
I'm gonna get there
I'm gonna get there

Money

I like it when we're going out
I don't care if there's nothing on
We do what we want when we're out
We do what we want, yeah we're out

I don't really want it to stop, I just got on it
I never knew, I never knew
It's not like how I planned it, I don't know how you stand it
You do, what you do

I need to make some money, need to make money
Woo woo, make money

I need to make some money, need to make money

Woo woo, make money

There's a false alarm going off
Chinatown's not far, take a walk
We're alive we're alive, and alone and alone
We're alive we're alive, and alone and alone

I don't really want it to stop, I just got on it
I never knew, I never knew
It's not like how I planned it, I don't know how you stand it
You do what you do
I need to make some money, need to make money
Woo woo make money

I need to make some money, need to make money

Woo woo

We're going out again
We're going out again

I don't really want it to stop, I just got on it
I never knew, I never knew
It's not like how I planned it, I don't know how you stand it
You do what you do
I need to make some money, need to make money
Woo woo make money

I need to make some money, need to make money

Woo woo make money

Moment

They tried to take me out of the moment
They tried to take me back to my boyfriend
Said honey you're sublime if only you'd respect yourself sometimes
Get help Go home Get under your boyfriend

'Cause don't you know, don't you know

That it's alright
Livin' in the moment
I'm sunshine
I'm open and I'm broken
And I'm just fine
Every single moment
When you feel it you don't wanna miss out on the moment
On the moment

Smirnoff and saltines under the station
My legs are stronger when they are shakin'
Fevered visions of my life, color me in all your fire
Leave me alone with my reputation

'Cause don't you know, don't you know

That it's alright
Livin' in the moment
I'm sunshine
I'm open and I'm broken
And I'm just fine
Every single moment
When you feel it you don't wanna miss out on the moment
On the moment

'Cause it's alright
Livin' in the moment
I'm sunshine
I'm open and I'm broken
And I'm just fine
Every single moment
When you feel it you don't wanna miss out on the moment
On the moment
You don't wanna miss out on the moment, on the moment

Let Me Touch

He comes alive we fall apart
They run away he gets to start
We make a move he'll make a mark
I just wanna look I just wanna look at him

He shapes the scene he brings me back
To when I was young when I was fast
To when I was burned when I was trashed
I just wanna touch I just wanna be with him

He stays awake he takes the room
Skates on the sun, lies on the moon
Look right away he's leaving soon
I just wanna get I just wanna go through him

A golden age projection
A face against the wall
Let me touch
A woo
A woo
Hey

The greatest imitator
The one that tricked us all
Let me touch
A woo
A woo
Hey

He always says just what he means
He never looks before he leaps
I'm on my way, he's on the screen
Everybody's got, everybody just gets him

He grabbed my hand, he made me think
That I was in Pretty in Pink
But I'm just a girl, I'm not a thing
I just wanna get, I just wanna go through him

A golden age projection
A face against the wall
Let me touch
A woo
A woo
Hey

The greatest imitator
The one that tricked us all
Let me touch
A woo
A woo
Hey

Pretty in Pink, Pretty in Pink
I'm just a girl I'm not a thing
Pretty in Pink, Pretty in Pink
I'm just a girl I'm not a thing
Pretty in Pink, Pretty in Pink
I'm just a girl I'm not a thing
Pretty in Pink, Pretty in Pink
I'm just a girl I'm not a thing
I'm just a girl I'm not a thing

T-Shirt

Cha
Boys don't get me
Girls wanna get with me
You're so shifty
Don't you think you'd fit me

Want you to give me something that'll keep me off the floor
Want you to give me something that'll keep me wanting more
Want you to give me something that you cannot take back
Want you to give me something covered in your sweat

You left your t-shirt at my apartment
I'm not giving it back, I'm not giving it back
I'm not getting even, I was just getting started
Like a kleptomaniac, I'm not giving it back
Well you said you're leaving
So I'll cut off your sleeves and I'll let you go

I'm not sexy
Itty Bitty Titty Committee
Don't take me so serious
I just like to make a fuss

I want you to give me something that'll keep me off the floor
Want you to give me something that'll keep me wanting more
I'm gonna tell you something that I cannot take back
'Cause I feel so attractive covered in your sweat

You left your t-shirt at my apartment
I'm not giving it back, I'm not giving it back
I'm not getting even, I was just getting started
Like a kleptomaniac, I'm not giving it back
Well you said you're leaving, so I'll cut off your sleeves
And I'll rip open the seems
And I'll let you go, I'll let you go

Ooh
Ooh
Ooh
Ooh

I'm not giving it back, like a kleptomaniac
I'm not giving it back, like a dirty kleptocrat
I'm not giving it back

And I'm keeping your lighter too
And your sixty dirty dollars cha

Turn Me On

Happy kids up in the city
Say that I am on a roll
They think suddenly I'm it now
With corduroy and overalls
I've been living in a basement
And she's been sleeping in a car
A pack of wicked little talkers
Looking up into the stars

It's up to you
To turn me on, turn me off
It's up to you

To turn me on
Or turn me off
Tell me why you don't like going out the way you used to
Turn me on
Turn me on or turn me off

Can't stop working in the evening
Can't stop looking down the hall
Said your father's in the army
Said your mother's off the wall
I still have some reservations
She's always running out the door
But I'm done watching television
We can't stop flashing corner stores

It's up to you
To turn me on, turn me off
It's up to you

To turn me on
Or turn me off
Tell me why you don't like going out the way you used to
Turn me on
Tell me why you don't like going out the way you used to
Tell me why you don't like getting by the way you used to
Tell me why you don't like going out the way you used to
Turn me on
Turn me on or turn me off

Gold

Gold
Gold
Gold
Gold
That's what we're made of

I'm walking by these sinners and saints (woo-hoo)
I don't know why they throw it all away (woo-hoo)
When did my fascination grow so cold (woo-hoo)
I wanna turn these colors back to

The bikers in the bands are selling their souls
The modern samurai is running through snow
Everybody knows the price of control
Playing with the Queen of Ice you get cold

All the runners up are breaking the crowd
All the animals are trying to get loud
Everybody knows the price of control
Playing with the Queen of Ice you get cold

The children in the maze are breaking their bones
The killers in the cage are sitting on thrones
Everywhere you turn you're out of control
You kick 'em in the head to get your own
Gold
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
Gold
That's what we're made of

I'm walking by these sinners and saints (woo-hoo)
I don't know why they throw it all away (woo-hoo)
When did my fascination grow so cold (woo-hoo)
I wanna turn these colors back to gold

Razor sharp we dance on the blades
Can't understand the mess that we made
Everybody knows the price of control
Playing with the Queen of Ice you get cold

Slap in the face then you're on the floor
Rats in the race you always want more
Everywhere you turn you're out of control
You kick 'em in the head to get your own

Gold
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
Gold
That's what we're made of

I'm walking by these sinners and saints (woo-hoo)
I don't know why they throw it all away (woo-hoo)
When did my fascination grow so cold (woo-hoo)
I wanna turn these colors back to gold

You'll never make it alone
Run on home
You'll never make it alone
Run on home

Gold
Gold
That's what we're made of

I'm walking by these sinners and saints (woo-hoo)
I don't know why they throw it all away (woo-hoo)
When did my fascination grow so cold (woo-hoo)

Highway 6

Gone with the wind
Gone by your finger tips
Your sandpaper skin
Underneath a waterfall

And when you whisper smooth
All I want is you
All I need is Sunday nights
All I need is you

Isn't it so funny
How beautiful you are
When you're walking out the door
When you're walking out the door

Isn't it so funny
How beautiful you are
When you're walking out the door
When you're walking out the door

Alabaster lips
Driving down the Highway 6
Basking in the sun
And giving it to anyone

And every single day
I just need to say

Isn't it so funny
How beautiful you are
When you're walking out the door
When you're walking out the door

A change is gonna come

Oh
Oh

Isn't it so funny
How beautiful you are
When you're walking out the door
When you're walking out the door

And isn't it so funny
How beautiful you are
When you're walking out the door
When you're walking out the door

When you're walking out the (door)
When you're walking out the (door)
When you're walking out the (door)

Late Show

One by one and two by two
I'm gonna rock to the beat and hurt my shoes
Three by three and four by four
I'm gonna want some more I want some more
Six by six and five by five
I'm still alive, I'm still alive

You wanna go to the late show
You wanna go to the late show
You wanna go to the late show
So wear your fox coat, I'll wear no clothes and stilettos
Oh

I don't know where I am going
Where I've gone, where I'm from what I'm doing what I've done
So I'm moving to the beat
I don't know what I've been seeing, who I've seen
Am I bleeding, do you know me do you feel me, come meet me

You wanna go to the late show
You wanna go to the late show
So wear your fox coat, I'll wear no clothes and stilettos
Oh
Or we could go to a party
And eat smarties, and get naughty little hottie, sweet hottie

I don't know where I am going
Where I've gone, if we've been here short or long or not at all
Are we moving to the beat?

I don't what we've been building
What we've built, who has lied, and who I've kissed
And what I've missed, so we're moving to the beat
Oh yeah

One by one and two by two
I'm gonna rock to the beat and hurt my shoes
Three by three and four by four
I'm gonna want some more I want some more
Six by six and five by five
I'm still alive, I'm still alive

You wanna go to the late show, oh oh
You wanna go to the late show, oh yeah
I wanna go
I wanna go
I wanna go
I wanna go
I wanna go
I wanna go
I wanna go
I wanna go
I wanna go to the late show (and play Tic Tac Toe)

Keeper

I think this one's a keeper
He's not like the last one
We spend our days and nights up
On his velvet couches
He's a bit of a stoner
It keeps his attention
He still lives with his mother
And father and sister

He likes to take me for
A drive up downtown
Running away with me
We drink in the crowds

But then it all goes silent
A yell then a whisper
He blew it up with secrets
He pulled on the trigger

Oh, oh, oh

'Cause I can't say come over and
I can't say when I'm into you
All the words that you lay down
Are nothing but broken

Met at the Silver Dollar
Sipped sevens and sevens
This one's got me excited
He's playing he's winning
He's got another lover
He told me he said so
He said that I'm much better
You know I believed him

He liked to take me for
A walk up downtown
Running away with me
We smoke in the crowds

But then it all goes silent
A yell then a whisper
He said I'm too invested
He pulled on the trigger

Oh, oh, oh

'Cause I can't say come over and
I can't say when I'm into you
All the words that you lay down
Are nothing but broken

And I can't be in the moment
And I can't run through the streets to you
All the words that you lay down
Are nothing but broken

I think this one's a keeper
He's not like the last one
We spend our days and nights up
On his velvet couches
He's a bit of a stoner

Walk Like That

I thought I was giving you gold
All my melodies were sung for you
Now I see how it all unfolds
And I can't close my eyes anymore

You were always troubling me
Trying to make me see what you see
You've given up
Oh my friend, looks like you're dying for inspiration
Can't get up, can't pretend, I'm not into imitations

I don't walk like that, and talk like that, like you want to
I just wear my black, and talk my smack, and do what I wanna do
Cuz I don't care
If you don't care

I thought I was honestly yours
Girls are always doing their chores for you
I'm done, giving up on this useless conversation
I've had enough, had enough
No I'm not into imitations

I don't walk like that, and talk like that, like you want to
I just wear my black, and talk my smack, and do what I wanna do
I don't walk like that, and talk like that, like you want to
I just wear my black, and talk my smack, and do what I wanna do

'Cause I don't care
If you don't care
'Cause I don't care
If you don't care

Why you throwin' me shade, Muffin?
Trying to take me away
Why you throwin' me shade, my friend?
It's not like you were here to stay
Why you throwin' me shade, Muffin?
My friend, Muffin
Why you throwin' me shade, Muffin?
My friend, Muffin

I don't really know what you want from me
Medicate yourself and get back to me
I don't really know what you want from me
Medicate yourself and get back to me
I don't really know what you want from me
Medicate yourself and get back to me
I don't really know what you want from me
I don't really know, I don't really know

I don't walk like that, and talk like that, like you want to

Sweet Life

I'm sick of this hazy shade of white
I'm sick of this cool cascading night
I'm done with the fat boys telling lies
All they ever wanna do is waste my
Time telling me
I'll never be
Where I want
But what do they know
I'm going places only I can go

I'll be dreaming of a sweet life
Ooh
I'll keep looking for a good time
Ooh
Baby boys won't break me
They won't be the ones to
Keep me down
'Cause I'll be dreaming of a sweet life

I want a milkshake filled with pills
A big empty house up on a hill
Life's short I'll take it all in stride
Stiff drinks, cheap love and a fire
Fight every night, yeah
We do what we want
I'll let it all go
Wake up just before the show

'Cause I'm still dreaming of a sweet life
Ooh
I'm still looking for a good time
Ooh
Baby boys won't break me
They won't be the ones to
Keep me down
'Cause I'll be dreaming of a sweet life

Listen, man

Someday we're gonna make it there
Someday we're gonna go somewhere
But in the meantime

I'll be dreaming of a sweet life
Ooh
I'll be dreaming of a sweet life
