I fought this morning's sunrise like usual
The pink blush of color
Weighed so heavy on my tired eyes
I tried to disguise my righteousness
With anger
Tried to make something true
Out the words I heard
Without learning something new
What I thought I knew
Didn't do it
No, I couldn't do it
No matter how I spit it out
A holy roller has only so much thunder
And oh, I'm running all out of love
What a hunger for wonder does
(Oh, what it does)
The day passed through me
Like my first one did, and my last one will
And all I learned is:
Where I've been is not what I am
If the good Lord saves me
(The good Lord saves me)
Like I'm really pretty sure He could
I'd do something more
Instead of wasting hours thinking
About what I did
And what I didn't
No matter how I spit it out:
A holy roller has only so much thunder
And oh, I'm running all out of love
What a hunger for wonder does
I can still sing those praise songs
Cross-eyes, tongue-tied
And never get the words wrong
Pick me up from where I stumbled
To start all over again
Like the good Christian man I am
No matter how I spit it out
A holy roller has only so much thunder
And oh, I'm running all out of love
What a hunger for wonder does
