It hit like a brick falling into the dirt
When we found out that Mom was leaving this earth
We watched the whole fight as she struggled and hurt
Against all the odds and for all she was worth
What made my mother so happy and bright
What kept her emotions all locked up so tight
And what made all the weight that she was holding so light
I can't even fathom what held her upright
Oh, but Lord, I know this much is true
She gave all those worries up to you
That woman of love
Whatever conclusions I choose to hold near
I know that my mother wouldn't live in fear
And I know that status quo isn't all it appears
Because she lived that example for almost 10 years
So whenever I'm feeling that my life is too rough
I think about my mother who defined the word tough
And I'll think of how her suffering was never enough
To show to us anything other than love
Oh, but Lord, I know this much is true
She gave all those worries up to you
That woman of love
Just as she showed us all until the end
There is nothing more sacred than our family and friends
There are no other people that I'd rather defend
And I'm proud you are with me as we learn to mend
From our fears of sickness and hurt from our pasts
Let's all stay together on this untraversed path
Let's always remember what Mom showed us last
That love for each other is all we have left
Oh, but Lord, I know this much is true
She gave all her worries up to you
That woman of love
