I walk a street near my own
Two blocks away to the south
A girl with pink hair walks her labrador
A younger man watches her mouth
I listen to Yo Yo Ma
Which alters what I see
In the carnival
The swan swims across the strings
Now they are three yards away
She wraps the leash 'round her wrist
I wonder if they will smile at me
No, they do not seem to notice
There is a new house ahead
A carpenter in the frame
He offers me a grin
I lift my hand and wave
I breathe a what-if into my lungs
A dream of this being the end
My last day, last passing strangers
And I find it all makes sense
All the flowering weeds
Rise to greet me
Forgiving what they have seen
My former apathy
La da da da
La da da da da da da
La da da da
La da da da da da da
La da da da
La da da da da da da
La da da da dum
I am a bird on her way home
Somewhere beyond your reach
I am no longer unconscious
And I miss you already
