Cotton Drifting - Rainy Day, Pt. 1 Lyrics

Cotton Drifting - Rainy Day, Pt. 1 Lyrics

The moonlight surrounds me, and it's the only place I could ever say my name right
I was a teacher and you were a ghost, but at the most, I was a pair of eyes
Wandering
Waiting for the bell to ring
Waiting for the day I'd leave and take flight
Anticipation led to impatience
Singing songs of freedom, I stayed by my seat
And sang with coffee in my feet
But finally the ringing commenced and I sprang up for a farewell dance

We packed our bags, the moon and I, and hit the road the next morning
He carried his comforting light
Directionless but eager I carried my thoughts and dreams
"Oh great world sing to me
Give me all you have to offer," I thought
"What could go wrong?
What would await me?"
As, a pair of eyes I looked outward and demanded to be shown
How beautiful the outside world could be

And we sang the whole way there!
And pretended not to care
About the bold and rainy sky
Pretended we were staying dry

But I stepped in a puddle and after a while
It got hard to ignore the stickiness of water and hatred
But we arrived regardless
We built a house of rainbows and happiness
We didn't greet our neighbors
We just waited for the sun to meet us

But the sun was in a meeting and he called to say he wouldn't make it
The moon and I kept waiting laying sprawled across the pavement
And soon we realized that we were all alone and naked
And no different from the time when we were mystified and ignorant
Now it rains every day!
And I am lost and away...
