Walking down these empty streets
I hear echoes from my past retreat
Bouncing off the walls of time
Unveiling memories long left behind.
There are places we should never roam
Not even for a walk not even near home
Places where we suffered blind
To reasons that left us far behind.
There's nothing clearer that you've grown
Than returning to where seeds were sown
And seeing how much you've rearranged
While the place itself remains unchanged.
And I don't regret the steps I've made
Maybe the things I left unstayed
But what I did it paved my way
Looking back now I've won the day.
I see the shadows of who I used to be
In every crack in every tree
But I stand taller I feel the air
I'm no longer that person who once despaired.
The roads that twisted the nights that cried
Led me to where I now reside
In a place of strength no more disguise
With lessons learned I realize.
There's nothing better to reveal
The depth of how you've come to heal
Than walking through your past again
And knowing now you've shed the pain.
And I don't regret the steps I've made
Maybe the things I left unstayed
But what I did it paved my way
Looking back now I've won the day.
So I'll walk these streets with pride
Knowing that I've turned the tide.
What's behind me I won't forget
But it's a past with no regret.
