I was raised up on a farm
Down at my grandma's place
She owned a hundred chickens
A prize rooster on the way
And when the ladies saw him
They could not believe there eyes
He strolled up beside them
Said i hope you ladies like
Do the chicken run
And when that rooster calls them
They come from oh so many miles away
But when the evening's over
There looking for another place to stay
Do the chicken run
Well finally that old rooster
Had seen his better days
Another big fine rooster
Came in to take his place
And when the fight was over
Old rooster he was done
He gathered up his feathers
Headed straight out to the sun
Do the chicken run
And when that rooster calls them
They come from oh so many miles away
But when the evening's over
There looking for another place to stay
Do the chicken run
Do the chicken run
Do the chicken run
