D'Ross - The Dross Lyrics

D'Ross - The Dross Lyrics

This is just me, this is just me
No longer hiding what they're going to see
I guess that's the reason for why I was idle
The way people view me had become my idol
The first time I heard this I was in denial
I want them to see Jesus, man that was vital
The man in the mirror had become my rival
Things feel different now
The chain round' my neck and my wrist weigh a couple pounds
Even though I was heaven bound
Materialism had constantly pulled me down
It was just like a merry go round
Stuck in a circle with no way of getting out
That's when I pushed through the crowd
Just a touch to say "Lord, I'm ready, I lay down my crown"
See when I did that I felt like all these chains broke off, broke off
He gave me direction and said, "Now my son, go forth, go forth
Stop chasing shadows and fitting in molds no more, no more
Trust in my plans, because it was you that I died for, died for

I've been surfacing things from under surface
Wasn't purposefully running from purpose
Applying the blood to these demonic curses
An Insurgent for my generation's insurgence
Life versus death so I'm using these verses
You say I'm worth it, at times I feel worthless
Whether I'm ready or not, raise the curtains
I think that it's time that I

Show you the Dross
Show you the Dross
A reminder of what I am without the cross
All the tears I cried... pain inside
I think that it's time that I
Show you the Dross
Show you the Dross
I'm counting my blessings to see what it cost
Let the fire rise, burn inside
It's time that I testify

This is just me
No longer hiding what they're going to see
Use to look at my dad and think one day that was probably who I would be
I'd hear him preach a sermon, take a look at his feet and say those shoes look really big
One of the toughest titles I was forced to wear was being a Preacher's kid
Ministry catered to my independence
Took my dad away from my adolescence
Always went to my mom when I had questions
Don't interrupt dad's bible study sessions
I didn't want to be a bother
See I struggled to talk to my father
But regardless I hold him in honor
And forgive him for the childhood trauma
I know he did all he could
For me to put these standards so high
That he cannot reach them makes me look no good
He could only give me what was taught
And though there were times when we yelled and we fought
This father and son thing never fell apart
You've been supporting me right from the start
I see my sons and now I'm ready to impart

I've been surfacing things from under surface
Wasn't purposefully running from purpose
Applying the blood to these demonic curses
An Insurgent for my generation's insurgence
Life versus death so I'm using these verses
You say I'm worth it, at times I feel worthless
Whether I'm ready or not, raise the curtains
