Eh I By - Blood and Salt Lyrics

In the early hours, with their punts,
The men set sail, ready for the hunt,
With harpoons sharp and ropes held tight,
They hunted the giants in the fading night.
The whaling ships on the icy sea,
Chased the whales where they used to be,
For oil and bone, for wealth and fame,
They carved their fortune, but at what cost came?

Oh, blood and salt upon the waves,
The price we paid, the lives we gave,
For whaling songs and sealing cries,
A heavy toll beneath our skies.

The seals would come with the winter's breath,
But the ice would bring both life and death,
The hunters walked on the frozen sheet,
To make their living, to make ends meet.
They'd brave the cold, the bitter storm,
In search of skins to keep them warm,
With clubs in hand and hearts of steel,
The sealing ships cut through the reel.

Oh, blood and salt upon the waves,
The price we paid, the lives we gave,
For whaling songs and sealing cries,
A heavy toll beneath our skies.

But the seas grew quiet, the whales grew few,
The ocean wept, as the numbers withdrew.
The seals once danced on the ice so white,
Now fewer remain in the Arctic light.
The hunters, too, they felt the change,
As the world began to rearrange.
The bounty lost, the jobs slipped away,
And the ocean held the debt to pay.

Oh, blood and salt upon the waves,
The price we paid, the lives we gave,
For whaling songs and sealing cries,
A heavy toll beneath our skies.

Now the harpoons rest, the boats lie still,
But the ghosts linger on the hill.
The whalers' and sealers' songs are sung,
For a way of life that's come undone.
The men who sailed, the lives they knew,
Their stories live where the cold winds blew.
For the seas we worked, and the toll they gave,
Are etched in the break of every wave.

Oh, blood and salt upon the waves,
The price we paid, the lives we gave,
For whaling songs and sealing cries,
A heavy toll beneath our skies.

The whale hunts left the oceans bare,
As numbers dwindled, few were spared.
Once the kings of the ocean wide,
Now endangered, some have cried.
And for the seals, some voices ring,
They call it cruel, a barbaric thing.
But for the hunters, it's a way to live,
A fight for survival, and all it can give.

Oh, blood and salt upon the waves,
The price we paid, the lives we gave,
For whaling songs and sealing cries,
A heavy toll beneath our skies.

In the sea's embrace, the past survives,
As we emptied the seas of those creature's lives.
Blood and salt, forever tied,
To the ocean's call, its mournful chide.
