She was nineteen, livin all on her own
With a baby, and no place to call a home
No one would hire a mother who was so rattled to the bone
And yet she raised her little girl with hope
She traveled far, looking for someone to help
Three years, cared for her little girl alone
She found the girl some playmates and thought that she was safe
A mother will always grant embrace
She said "I will always love you"
"Though we are miles apart"
She said "I will give you comfort"
"If someone dare ever break your heart"
"And now I give you my blessing"
"And hope you remember my face"
She said "I will always love you"
"And we will forever be enlaced"
She found a job, working on a factory floor
It didn't last long, soon she was out the door
Her baby girl was starving and forgot what she was like
It got a lot colder at night
She'd give her life for her darling baby
And so, the story came to be
She said "I will always love you"
"Though we are miles apart"
She said "I will give you comfort"
"If someone dare ever break your heart"
"And now I give you my blessing"
"And hope you remember my face"
She said "I will always love you"
"And we will forever be enlaced"
She sent the girl all that she had
To keep her baby from being sad
She cut off all her hair, she sold her two front teeth
She chose to make money in her sleep
Then the nights got too cold to bear
No one loves a lady without hair
She spent her evenings crying, wishing there was more
Wondering why this world hates the poor
She said "I will always love you"
"But darling it's too dark to play"
"My child it's time to come in now"
"The light will come back in the day"
"Without the rain, to wash away, your darkest stain, and you will reign, without my pain"
She said "I will always love you"
"Though we are miles apart"
She said "I will give you comfort"
"If someone dare ever break your heart"
"And now I give you my blessing"
"I hope you remember my face"
She said "I will always love you"
"And we will forever be enlaced"
She said "I will always love you"
