Concrete comfort
Against my tailbone and neck
Calm cricket thunder
The smell of everything wet
The midnight sky
My old friend
I equip my makeshift blinders
I set hands around my gaze
Block the treetops and the suburbs
Create a tunnel for my face
I feel it falling forward
To outer space
I will not stay here
Unless you make
Me stay
Up here in space, there's a staryard playground
Where Mom and Dad are watching from the background
Me and the kids play make-believe
As the earth becomes unknown
My new buddies can be frightening
Heat and laughter like lightning
Six times I nearly bit it
But on the seventh I committed
And I began to shine
Ignited
Delighted
To be yours
Up here in space, there's a staryard playground
Where Mom and Dad are watching from the background
Me and the kids play make-believe
As the earth becomes unknown
Up here in space, there is star-bound freedom
And an escape from everything I'm feeling
All these lights are dazzling
Yet somehow I'm missing home
Body wet, eyes electric
Did I leave this concrete slab?
I guess I needed some perspective
This hunk of dirt ain't all that bad
Now I'll always see the sky
Looking back, at me
