When I was growing up at home
A child
I guess I never understood
A world I didn't know
Was crying to be heard
Above the hunger and the fear
In time, I came to understand the prayers
And to this day they pray them still
The pictures that we see
Don't show all that they should
It's time we taste a bitter pill
I don't want to die
Are the cries the children hide
Maybe there's time to save a few
And both you and I
Have the child that's left inside
Can't you hear it calling you?
Tell me I'm dreaming
The pictures change from day to day
But the hurt can still be seen in their eyes
I wish that I could just throw it all away
Relieve the anguish in their minds
If I could only give them hope
And find a way to bring together all mankind
Maybe then we'd wipe away the tears
That shouldn't fill a child's eyes
I don't want to die
Are the cries the children hide
Maybe there's time to save a few
And both you and I
Have the child that's left inside
Can't you hear it calling you?
Tell me I'm dreaming
