Isaac Wheadon - Religion Lyrics

Isaac Wheadon - Religion Lyrics

When did it begin ?
The twisting and changing of the truth
That frees souls from sin

How did it get to this point?
What was once so pure
Now only disappoints

I'm not surprised why
People don't believe
When they've lost all hope
In a faith that should be so deep

There is not one single man to blame
Not one individual that we can name
That can take responsibility for the pain
That turned hearts to live a life in vain

The power of the people
Is the power that is now so feeble
A power that lost sight of what is equal
And forgot who determines Good and evil

And gave we that power away to a few
Quickly opinions were changed as to what is true
They wove an almost spotless web
Of lies and deceit that left
Those who knew no better, spiritually dead

And now we live in the time of
Limitless knowledge
When before wisdom was only
Closed off to the privileged

Yet so many are still
Lost in the fog of tradition
Not questioning whether or not
They are being grown by their religion

So focused on the actions and opinions
That the need for faith
Got strangled by external conditions

Never obtaining knowledge from the
Sword of the spirit
But from the opinions of high priests
Spewing lifeless teaching to anyone
Who was willing to hear it

What do they mean by
In the name of the
Father, Son & Holy Spirit?
Where is the functioning of the Spirit?
Does it match the supernatural acts that Jesus insisted?
When will the thirst for eternal freedom
Transform this world of sin?
How much pain will it take?
For the need for love shake this world into awakening
