Hi my name is Kevin
I'm gonna ask you some questions that will be difficult to answer
It's hard enough already but hopefully these answers can help people so they won't feel alone
The first question is what is your name
The second will be what depression is to you
The third how you cope
My name is Hannah Overstake
My name is Victor Andrade
Hi I'm Samantha Walpole
Hi my name is Kyle
And I work as a mental health therapist
To me depression is a tricky thing
It presents differently and different people
Depression is like being dead on the inside but physically alive
Depression to me is feeling lack of respect and nothing you do will matter to anybody
Depression to me has been one of the worst roller coaster in my entire life
I see depression like a big dark cloud overhead depression feels lonely it feels helpless and hopeless
Like there's no end in sight
You still feel everything but you don't want too
Some days you know I wake with energy to do everything
And then the next all the sudden that energy is gone
You would rather be numb or even worse dead
Depression is isolating the idea to getting up to work or to see friends or just to get cereal is extremely Overwhelming the amount of effort it takes for these seemingly simple tasks
Require a monumental effort from Someone suffering with depression
Some days I just get inside my own head thinking
That I'm not good enough uh I feel like haha you know like
There's another Kyle in my head trying to bring me down
And tell me I'm worthless and it's one of the worst
Feelings in the world and I know I'm not alone everyone goes through this
Depression is like trying to walk up a steep hill while your legs and feet keep turning into sand
With every step that you take
Coping with depression takes excessive work and a strong will in believing that things do get better
I cope with this by keeping my mind busy with something or someone, big examples are
My car and the people I care for
But you just gotta keep on going and keep up with the good vibrations
Cause what you do will matter and you can Change somebody's life just by being you
I just know that one day together we can all get through
Whatever we're going through, you know life's too
Precious to let go, you gotta hold on and fight for each other
Self care is something that has been pushed under the rug in this culture
Mental has been twisted and molded into Beliefs that people are weak
I can't feel anything if I'm too busy with something or someone else
That's that's the beauty of it all but the sad truth is
When you're in that stage when you're in your head you
Feel the Most alone and it's scary there's no way out of it at least that's what you know, you think
We live in a "pull yourself up by the bootstraps kid" type of society
But there is a way out it and together we'll find a way out of it
There's always a rainbow on the other side life will always get better
I believe that decreasing the stigma of mental health is going to be one of the most important things
We need to Start talking, we need to not be afraid to ask for help when we need it
And most importantly we need to have Patience with ourselves
We need to have faith that we will come out on the other side of this
