Liam Sweeney - On The Road Lyrics

Liam Sweeney - On The Road Lyrics
Official

Five years old in kindergarten, wondering what I'd be
They told me I could go to space, try medicine or teach
But it wasn't till my eighth grade play when I scored the lead
I found my love of music filled an empty space inside of me
So I learned to play guitar, I learned to sing and write
I learned that silly love songs lead to sultry summer nights
But I couldn't help but feel like I was choking on the dust
Of a crummy little one-horse town, and soon I'd had enough
On the road, in a kitchen eating homemade meals
In someone else's home
On the road, I enjoy some company though I like to travel on my own
You see, headrests, tents and hammocks exact a heavy toll
Though it doesn't seem to matter much when I'm out on the road
So I went to Nashville where I made a noble stand
Playing gigs on weekends in a mediocre band
Standing on a Broadway stage bathed in neon light
Helped to quench my thirst and soothe my endless appetite
And at 22 I went on tour as the opening act
For an old folk country singer who was up and coming back
Still my records didn't sell, to me it was absurd
It seemed that people heard my songs and didn't get the words
On the road, in the kitchen eating homemade meals
In someone else's home
On the road, I enjoy some company though I like to travel on my own
You see, headrests, tents and hammocks exact a heavy toll
Though it doesn't seem to matter much when I'm out on the road
I missed family weddings, I missed births and holidays
Something in my heart just kept calling me away
On the road, in the kitchen eating homemade meals
In someone else's home
On the road, I enjoy some company though I like to travel on my own
You see, headrests, tents and hammocks exact a heavy toll
Though it doesn't seem to matter much when I'm out on the road
I've sacrificed a lot of life, at times I feel alone
Though I wouldn't trade a single day of life out on the road
