Lillian Sunrise - Highway to Hayward Lyrics

Lillian Sunrise - Highway to Hayward Lyrics
Official

We drew near, the jeep in sight
Recognized Dan, our hearts alight
As we approached, the moment vast
Shouted "Dan!" as we sped past
As we sped past
We packed our bags, it was time to go
Three Norwegian friends on a road trip flow
From Minneapolis up to Duluth's door
In our trusty car, seeking something more
Oh, the road to Duluth, with friends by our side
Adventures await, on this wild ride
Laughter and joy, through the twists and the turns
Memories we'll cherish, lessons we'll learn
Johan, Jon Helge, and Viggo too
Starting school Monday, but nothing to do
No place to stay, but spirits were high
North on I-35, under Minnesotan sky
We drew near, the jeep in sight
Recognized Dan, our hearts alight
As we approached, the moment vast
Shouted "Dan!" as we sped past
Oh, the road to Duluth, with friends by our side
Adventures await, on this wild ride
Laughter and joy, through the twists and the turns
Memories we'll cherish, lessons we'll learn
Dan was heading to Hayward, so we decided to go
To join his adventure, in the late summer glow
A Birkebeiner race, in Wisconsin's heart
We'd follow Dan's lead, a fresh start
Playing tag on the road, we led for a bit
Then Dan veered off, in a split
We lost him there, took a wrong turn
In search of his jeep, our concern
Oh, the road to Duluth, with friends by our side
Adventures await, on this wild ride
Laughter and joy, through the twists and the turns
Memories we'll cherish, lessons we'll learn
We turned around, checked a gas station or two
Frustration mounted, our hopes withdrew
But there he was, waiting patiently
Our hearts lifted, what a sight to see
On the smaller roads, we lost him once more
Traffic was heavy, our spirits sore
Back to a gas station, a snack in hand
Hoping to find our elusive friend Dan
Forty-five minutes, then we gave in
Duluth was calling, the adventure within
But then Dan appeared, at the same place
Reunited again, we embraced
Oh, the road to Duluth, with friends by our side
Adventures await, on this wild ride
Laughter and joy, through the twists and the turns
Memories we'll cherish, lessons we'll learn
Jim and Lisa welcomed us there
With daughter Hannah, their warm care
Their cabin was a mansion, a grand retreat
With rooms aplenty, it couldn't be beat
Snowmobiles in winter, four-wheelers in the sun
Right by the lake, we had so much fun
As poor students, this was a dream
Living lavishly, part of their team
Jim and Dan raced, the Birkebeiner call
We cheered them on, standing tall
Lisa showed us the sights around
In Hayward's beauty, we were spellbound
We drove to Duluth, took the scenic route
Back to the cabin, no room for doubt
Our adventure was rich, filled with delight
In Minnesota's embrace, day and night
We forged new bonds, in that mansion's glow
Resourceful friends, now we know
We visited often, winter and fall
Snowmobiles on ice, we did it all
As Norwegian students, far from home
University life, no longer alone
Thanks to Jim, Lisa, and Dan's embrace
Minnesota felt like our own space
Years have passed, memories remain
Of that first trip, through joy and pain
A reunion calls, 26 years on
To relive the days, now almost gone
So here's to the friends, the laughter, the fun
To the road to Duluth, and all we've done
In the heart of Minnesota, we found our way
Together we'll journey, come what may
We drew near, the jeep in sight
Recognized Dan, our hearts alight
As we approached, the moment vast
Shouted "Dan!" as we sped past
As we sped past
As we sped past
Shouted "Dan!" as we sped past
As we sped past
As we sped past
As we sped past
