It made me stop for a moment
And realise it's been a while since we've last spoken
As you stepped off with no looking back
I wondered if it was you hid beneath that flat cap
And I pinched a piece of skin
To see if this was real and the pain would kick on in
But all I felt was a memory of you
A Welsh seaside one winter afternoon
Back when life felt right
A bag of bad jokes and walking stick by your side
I keep a photo of that moment
Locked inside my skin like time got frozen
As you looked towards the sea
The waves in your eyes said that you would never leave
