Mumford & Sons - Rushmere Album Lyrics

Mumford & Sons - Rushmere Lyrics

Malibu

In all my doubt
In all my weakness
Can you lead?
I fall behind
But like you promise
You wait for me

And I feel a spirit move in me again
I know it's the same spirit that still moves in you
I don't know how it took so long to shed this skin
Live under the shadow of your wings

You are all I want
You're all I need
I'll find peace beneath the shadow of your wings

I'm still afraid
I said too much
Or not enough
You'd only see
The ghost still rising
A broken touch

But walking through the valley was what brought me here
I knew I would never make it on my own
And I don't know how it took so long to shed this skin
Live under the shadow of your wings

You are all I want
You're all I need
And I'll find peace beneath the shadow of your wings

Walking through the valley was what brought me here

You are all I want
You're all I need
And I'll find peace beneath the shadow of your wings

And I'll find peace beneath the shadow of your wings

Caroline

Somehow this feels just right
I wish I could feel it every night
We'll tilt the room dim light
I think I hear my groove
I could tell the way shuffling in their shoes
They say there's room for two
Oh, Caroline
Oh, Caroline

I'm thinking on your ground
I could tell the way you're looking with those eyes
I haven't seen it in some time
This tight rope on my mind
Our bounce's getting better every night
This drink is my disguise
Oh, Caroline
I know I crossed the line
Oh, Caroline

Been here once or twice before
Serious kinda thing
The way you're moving back and forth
As fist on my wedding ring
But I don't know where I'm going
And sometimes, it's better of not knowing
Oh, Caroline

Rushmere

Don't you miss the breathlessness
The wildness in the eye?
Come home late in the morning light
Bloodshot dreams under streetlight spells
A truth no one can tell
And I was still a secret to myself

Light me up, I'm wasted in the dark
Rushmere, restless hearts in the end
Get my head out of the ground
Time don't let us down again

Take me back to empty lawns
And nowhere else to go
You say, "Come get lost in a fairground crowd"
Where no one knows your name
There's only honest mistakes
There's no price to a wasted hour

Well, light me up, I'm wasted in the dark
Rushmere, restless hearts in the end
And get my head out of the ground
Time don't let us down again

What's lost is gone and buried deep
Take heart and let it be
Don't lie to yourself
There's madness and magic in the rain
There's beauty in the pain
Don't lie to yourself

Well, light me up, I'm wasted in the dark
Rushmere, restless hearts
There's something we might miss
A whole life in a glimpse
Well, I'm still working it out
Time don't let us down again
'Cause I won't wait
Get my head out of the ground
Time don't let us down again

Where It Belongs

When the morning comes
I find myself just missin' you
Find myself just wishin'
You were laying by my side

But as my day goes on
I'm wonderin' if you're missing me
Wonderin' if you're wishing
We were laying side by side

Let me know if you
Feel the way I do
I get the message loud and clear
Let yourself come home
Forget the others bring it
Here is where your love belongs
Here is where your love belongs
Here is where your love belongs

But when my evening comes
I'm wishin' I was kissing you
I'm fishin' for the words
To lay on you to make it right
Make it right
Make it right, yeah

Let me know if you
Feel the way I do
I get a message loud and clear
Let yourself come home
Forget the others bring it
Here is where your love belongs
Here is where your love belongs
Here is where your love belongs
Here is where your love belongs

Anchor

Can you taste the iron on their skin
They have bled and hardened
Cold and saltwater their only friends
Their heaviness is beautiful
But your arms weren't made to be winches
Sunlight is only so strong
The rope is only so long and the water is so, so deep
Stop tying yourself to anchors
You wonder why you can't breathe and you're drowning in anger
Stop tying yourself to anchors
This love you found will drag you down it's in your nature
And your heart's a home for each sad stranger
But you gotta stop falling in love with anchors
Don't forget that you're a child of things that grow
You can't plant your roots in the salt
Boy, you can't drink the ocean
You're sailing on corpses
Chasing the ghosts of the deep with their lonely lures
And it's not love, no it's not love
To drown for the glow and pretend you don't see teeth
Stop tying yourself to anchors
You wonder why you can't breathe and you're drowning in anger
Stop tying yourself to anchors
This love you found will drag you down it's in your nature
And if your sorrows were seeds
You could build an armada with the trees you've planted and grown
But you'd jump from the ship and drown in your fears
You're afraid of being alone
Stop tying yourself to anchors
You wonder why you can't breathe and you're drowning in anger
Stop tying yourself to anchors
This love you found will drag you down it's in your nature
And your heart's a home for each sad stranger
But you gotta stop tying yourself to anchors

Surrender

I've been holding on to grudges
Got that wall built up high
Against the ones who hurt me
And the ones who broke my trust

There were so many nights
And so many days
I screamed up to the sky
"God, where are you?"
Cause I need you now
I'm losing in this round

So I will surrender my heart to you
Cause you are my refuge
Calmed the storms inside of me
Saved me from the raging sea

So I will surrender

You gave me all the power
To let my guard come down
You gave me all the strength
Made me feel safe and sound

You're telling me it's worth it
Time to let it go
Telling me it's okay
Catch me if I fall
Cause I need you now
To help me win this round

So I will surrender my heart to you
Cause you are my refuge
Calmed the storms inside of me
Saved me from the raging sea

So I will surrender

Don't let go
Cause I need you

So I will surrender my heart to you
Cause you are my refuge
Calmed the storms inside of me
Saved me from the raging sea

So I will surrender to you
