Mykel Hawk - Burn to Emerge Lyrics
Official

I thought that I was on my way
Right from the beginning day
I found out when I took my turn
That I still had a lot to learn
But that ain't going to stop me no
That ain't stop my flow
That ain't going to kill the urge
They say you got to burn to emerge
It's Mykel Hawk and I'm a motherf*cking rap star
And I'm not bragging I'm just stating what the facts are
I don't like boujie rap I bump more shit like Black Star
And yo this track here got more flavor than a snack bar
This shit has been a way of life since I was ten all I would do
Is sit and write while listening to beats all night until morning
Would turn to night then once again
And I'd pretend that I was in the shoes of rappers I looked up to
I had a mic and a boombox I'd hook it up to
I'd put a concert on right there inside my bedroom
In only underwear I didn't care cause I'd have cred soon
It had to be more than a dream because it seemed
And felt so real I'd sign a deal and then of course
My music video would play on MTV's show Yo! with Dr. Dre
And they would have me there like damn near every weekend
Because I'd have another single that was peaking
My people keeping me from my own braggadocio
Fans screaming never sleeping on a tour of Tokyo
That was the goal that was my vision I would explode a rap musician
Some people told me that my mission would never grow into fruition
I'd never listen to no dismissing
I'd only laugh cause every year that passed I'd just get better
And it was clear I was advancing fast in my endeavor
Vocabulary showing bars growing ever clever
Abandoned almost everything but Hip-Hop altogether
One day my confidence had grown I stepped out to club that locally was known
For hosting battles rappers flowing for the throne
I grabbed the mic walked out and froze just like a stone
My ego blown
I thought that I was on my way
Right from the beginning day
I found out when I took my turn
That I still had a lot to learn
But that ain't going to stop me no
That ain't stop my flow
That ain't going to kill the urge
They say you got to burn to emerge
I started out just as a child with aspirations
Some found it wild that I had such determination
To read about myself in Hip-Hop publications
I didn't know then I would face the complications
I never thought about or gave considerations
That I could find myself in f*cked up situations
Some people said I lacked the real qualifications
Said I'm a dreamer with a big imagination
I took my demo to the local music station
I couldn't even get a play in they rotation
I started doubting myself losing motivation
Like me a rapper pshh, hallucinations
But then epiphany hit a revelation
I wouldn't be defined by others limitations
I make this music for the positive vibrations
Now I could give a f*ck about interpretations
I thought that I was on my way
Right from the beginning day
I found out when I took my turn
That I still had a lot to learn
But that ain't going to stop me no
That ain't stop my flow
That ain't going to kill the urge
They say you got to burn to emerge
