Like only rhymes and verses
Don't make it poetry
Two people hastily in love
Don't make felicity
But I just thought about that moment
When you first glanced at me
Made me keep buying drinks just so you wouldn't leave
A prelude to a summer made of nights we didn't sleep
And now that it's too late for us
I finally can see
How a few brush strokes
Can make a masterpiece
Like only charts of elements
Don't make it chemistry
A few words before god alone
Don't make fidelity
But I just thought about that moment
When you said "I do" to me
Made me believe the things they show you on TV
I felt like I would be the man I'd thought I couldn't be
And now that it's too late for us
I finally can see
How a few brush strokes
Can make a masterpiece
Oh, the sun must remember our silhouettes
Holding hands, burning cigarettes
From all these times we watched it set
Now my days are made of the memories
And I pray every night when I go to sleep
Could I only, only once go back?
Like only notes on paper
Don't make a symphony
A couple dozen roses
Don't make an apology
But I just thought about the words I said
And the tears you cried for me
Made me lock away my heart indefinitely
I know I'll never be the man I promised you I'd be
So, all I'm gonna say is
That I finally can see
How a few brush strokes
Can destroy a masterpiece
