Not For Naught - Swimming Hole Lyrics
Official

Summers on the farm when I was just a teen
Doing chores and goofing off and everything in between
Tractors, horses, fixing fence all day with no concern
Sometimes I think back on those days and find that I really yearn
For days on the farm, just twist my arm to jump in that swimming hole
My sunburn was peeling while"Hooked On A Feeling" played on the radio
I left home to go to school as was expected
Jobs, degrees, accomplishments, I dutifully collected
Even when I lived in France and ate my lunch baguette
Or in L.A. with my close friends, I never did forget
Those days on the farm, just twist my arm to jump in that swimming hole
Working for fun while"Band On The Run" played on the radio
Those days are gone and friendships dimmed, the country left behind
But they ripple through uncounted years and echo in my mind
I've had a long career as a scholar and professor
I often toed the line, but once or twice was the transgressor
Despite the years of service and a gold retirement plaque
Sometimes my mind begins to wander and I find that I'm carried back
To days on the farm. Hey, twist my arm to jump in that swimming hole
Working seven to seven while"Rock and Roll Heaven" played on our radio
Days on the farm, just twist my arm to jump in that swimming hole
Working all summer, Rikki didn't lose that number on our radio
