• The song was written after the group saw an exhibit on "Kitsch Culture."
• A footnote on the back of the Aquarium CD case stated that "The song 'Barbie Girl' is a social comment and was not created or approved by the makers of the doll."
• Mattel sued the band, saying they violated the Barbie trademark. In 2002, a judge ruled the song was protected as free speech under the first amendment, and also threw out a defamation lawsuit Aqua's record company filed against Mattel.
