Phoenix - Alpha Zulu Album Lyrics

Phoenix - Alpha Zulu Lyrics

Alpha Zulu

Take a moment to decide to compromise
You let me know some other time, some other day
You're now closer to the start than to the limit
Take a bow, vow to the sky, if you want to wait, great

Woo-ha, singin' hallelujah
Pray to your God, cover your lies
God or guru, hey, hey, hey
Woo-ha, singin' hallelujah
Run for your life, cover your eyes
Alpha Zulu, hey, hey

Tell me why, don't tell me when, don't tell me how
I must have died at fifty-one, 1953
Just accounting to the stars, the only reason I'm allowed
There's a purple cloud in the consommé, ouais

Woo-ha, singin' hallelujah
Pray to your God, cover your lies
God or guru, hey, hey, hey
Woo-ha, singin' hallelujah
Run for your life, cover your eyes
Alpha Zulu

Why choose your body over time?
Why choose your body over time with me?
Why choose your body over time?
Why choose your body over time with me?
Hey, hey, hey

I get you closer to sublime, the alibi
Your Mona Lisa immortalized, décapitée
I wouldn't change I wouldn't try another second
'Til I rise a hologram waiting for the tie-break

Woo-ha, singin' hallelujah
Pray to your God, cover your lies
God or guru, hey, hey, hey
Woo-ha, singin' hallelujah
Run for your life, cover your eyes
Alpha Zulu

Why choose your body over time?
Why choose your body over time with me?
Why choose your body over time?
Why choose your body over time with me?
Hey, hey, hey

(Why choose your body over time?)
(Why choose your body over time?)
Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

Tonight

[ Featuring Ezra Koenig ]

Could you, could you come tonight?
Instead of going under
Could you, could you come tonight?
Would you think it'd be her last December?

Could it be the way she combs her hair?
It must have been the day you lost to care
What if I was the answer to your prayer?
Yeah, you need a little candor, need a little candor

What if we last 'til it's dawn like you promised me?
Who let the boys spill their entree?
Dinner is served, can't you see we're not opposites?
Are you still up thinking of me?

I take all the blame
Is it hard to understand?
When it's all the same
I've played all the games
And lost almost everything
Now I talk to myself and it's quite surprising

Roll with me
Let's roll

Could you, could you come tonight?
I'm counting from the thunder
Could you, could you come tonight?
I got a feeling that you know the number

Could I be the best to jump ahead?
Your feet are hurting less with moccasins
I never heard another comment since
You need a little splendor, need a little splendor

What if we last 'til the dawn like you promised me?
Who let the boys spill their entree?
Dinner is served, can't you see we're not opposites?
Are you still up thinking of me?

I take all the blame
Is it hard to understand?
When it's all the same
I've played all the games
And lost almost everything
Now I talk to myself and it's quite surprising

Roll with me
Let's roll with me

Talk to myself and it's quite surprising
In the middle of the night
Roll
Now I talk to myself and it's quite surprising
In the middle of a fight
Roll

Can't you see the sign up on the wall?
In the middle of the night
Roll
Can't you see the sign up on the wall?
In the middle of a fight
I talk to myself and it's quite surprising

Roll with me
Let's roll with me

I wish I could be someone like you
Wish I would dare someone else, someone like you
Wish I would be with someone else, someone like you
Be someone else, someone else, someone like you
Oh how I wish I could be someone else, someone like you
Be someone else, someone else, someone like you

The Only One

Resurrect us all
I want to be forever young
Wishing more wishes in debt
Why do I need to carry on?

Can I be the only one?
Rest assured, I'm having fun
Every night a hit and run
Is it the hardest thing you've ever done?

How can I be the only one?
How can I be the only one?
How can I be the only one?
Can I, can I be the only one?

Emoticons
Sending faces in polygons
Here's another wish instead
With a candle, light a cigarette

Can I be the only one?
Giving hugs and getting none
Spending hours in the sun
Is it the hardest thing you've ever done?

How can I be the only one?
How can I be the only one?
How can I be the only one?
Can I, can I be the only one?

Reckless tears in my mind
Reckless tears all the time
Reckless tears in my mind
Reckless tears all the time
Reckless tears in my mind
Reckless tears all the time
Reckless tears in my mind
Reckless tears all the time

How can I be the only one? (Reckless tears in my mind)
How can I be the only one? (Reckless tears all the time)
How can I be the only one? (Reckless tears in my mind)
Can I, can I be the only one? (Reckless tears all the time)

After Midnight

Somewhere, somewhere, somewhere to go
Many years ago
Would you allow? Could you allow?
That's what they're like
Did you look? Did you look?
Heavenly, heavenly sort of sounds adolescent
Well, I told you not, not to look from the start?
When the sun is almost gone, it's way too much

Enough said, enough sense
It's unconventional
When the sun is almost gone, it's not enough
Suddenly, finally without a yell, I'll listen

Ooh, that's what we'll make in broad daylight
Ooh, soon you'll realize it's after midnight

My memories, souvenirs, some originals
High up in the rows
Idolized, canonized, that morning rise
I told you not, I told you not
No veneer behind the mirror
Did you call from a distance?
Well, I told you not, not to look from this side
When the sun is almost gone, it's way too much

Enough said, enough sense
It's unconventional
When the sun is almost gone, it's not enough
Suddenly, finally, without a yell, I'll listen
Ooh, that's what we're like in broad daylight
Ooh, soon you'll realize, it's after midnight

Listen, it's illicit
Listen, listen, it's illicit
Listen, listen, it's illicit
Listen, listen, listen
Listen, it's illicit
Listen, listen, it's illicit
Listen, listen, it's illicit
Listen, listen, listen

Ooh, that's what we'll make in broad daylight
Ooh, soon you'll realize it's after midnight

Winter Solstice

A restricted area
Shaped like a petunia
Thank God you know your ways
It's in your mind
It's on all the time

And I found it hard to explain
What would you trade me for
This girl's playing hula hoop
Under the malicious
Winter solstice

Turn the lights on
Find me a narrative
Something positive
This requiem played a few times before
I heard it once
So I'm not sure
On the phone I told you
Why open your eyes to go to bed?
Drive straight to the ocean
Let's see what you won't find out
Even the righteous beheaded their loved ones

Now it's hard to connect
But the world's unchained
And soon
It'll be public domain
It's too hard to remain
Astute
But I will stay
If you're detained
With you
I'll wash my hands
Until it rains
Through you

Keeping the lights on
Obliged to the bygones
Thank god you know your ways
If this time it's true
Why bother reeling you?

All this fine jewelry
Look at this diamond shaped out of glass
I'll try to make this ruby shine nice
I'm tryna make a living
Is that something that you don't mind
Fine
Did you ever think it could have been in our lifetime?

So give me a ride home
Find me a narrative
Something positive
This requiem played a few times before
I heard it twice
So I'm not sure
On the phone I told you
Why open your eyes to go to bed?
Drive straight to the ocean
Let's see what you won't find out
Cover you eyes for winter solstice

Now it's hard to connect
But the world's unchained
And soon
It'll be public domain
It's too hard to remain
Astute
But I will stay
If you're detained
With you
I'll wash my hands
Until it rains
Through you

Season 2

Giddy-up, I'm bored and torn
Don't wanna want to
Attaboy, I'm sure
Don't waste a minute

Are you not enthused?
No matter what we used to say
Giddy-up and go
It tastes like heaven

More
I'll be the number you adore, sure
But hold the thought before you ask what's new in Season 2
In Niagara falls
Watch me dive in, can I reach the shore?
You tell me how to love a thing or two
Before I fall in

Giddy-up, encore
I'm done, don't want to want to
Hurry up to shore
For winter solstice
Lenny Rosenthal
The boy you kind of used to date
Did he ever thought
You'd taste like heaven

More
I'll be the number you adore, sure
But hold the thought before you ask what's new in Season 2
In Niagara falls
Watch me dive in, can I reach the shore?
You tell me how to love a thing or two
Before I fall in

Last drink
Tell me something you would not think
That I'd be better if my heart sank
Another season and it's almost new
It tastes like heaven
Last drink
Show me something you would not think
But hold the thought before you ask what's new in Season 2
Attaboy, I'm sure
It tastes like heaven

Last drink (giddy-up, I'm bored and torn)
Show me something you would not think (don't wanna want to)
Attaboy, I'm sure
Don't waste a minute more

Artefact

No sé si sabias tú
Ni si sabias tú
Que todo se tornó azul
¿Cómo superar
Mi fragilidad?
Me suena todo a rumor
Y lo escucho bien

I'm looking for an artefact
A piece of me that's still intact, yeah
Algun vestigio o artefacto
Algo de mí que aún te guste

Antes de nacer
De volvernos uno
Antes de perderte

And when on your own
I considered it home
Believed it was you

Lo dejaré en paz
Lo borraré todo
Porque es verdad

And when you get upset
I can't afford it
I won't deny it
Sobre Nueva Escocia
No soy Rubirosa
La historia viene
And then when you get upset
I kinda like it
Don't leave me skull and bones
De todos tus novios
Que no me escapo
La historia viene y va

How finally has a bitter tone
You wish I'd never known
Nothing that follows sounds new

Corazón teflón
En el telephone
Deja sonar el rumor
Y esta es mi verdad

I'm looking for an artefact
A piece of me that's still intact, yeah
Algun vestigio o artefacto
Algo de mí que aún te guste

Before you were born
Before we were one
Before you were loose

Y siendo tu misma
Me diste un hogar
Si creo que eras tú

Lo dejaré en paz
Lo borraré todo
Porque es verdad

And when you get upset
I can't afford it
I won't deny it

Sobre Nueva Escocia
No soy Rubirosa
La historia viene
Y cuando tú te enojas
Lo que me gusta
No me dejes huesos
De todos tus novios
I can't escape them
This story comes and goes

Oh, did you, did you, did you know
Did you, did you know
Every color turned blue?
How to find the shore in a waterfall
Oh, that rumor sounds true
Yeah I hear it too

All Eyes on Me

Last night, SoHo
Bellement mon beau
All eyes on me
All eyes on me, I said
Woo, woo, ha

Before they cut you out
Then you went missing honestly
I thought you weren't allowed
Mais oui, mais non, mais non, merci

All eyes on me
Peel slowly and see
Tristan is broke
Selling his Van Gogh

And then you figure out
Your coeur de cible is courtesy
I caught you anyhow
Do, ré, do, do, ré, do, ré, me

Didn't I tell you then?
Didn't I tell you not to stutter?
Did-didn't I tell you when?
Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I?

All eyes on me, I said
What I mean, I say
All eyes on me, I said
I'm not that innocent
Why would I lie? Why would I lie?
Why would I, why would I lie?
Why would I lie? Why would I lie?
Why would I, why would I lie?

All eyes on me, I said
What I mean, I say
All eyes on me, I said
I'm not that innocent
Why would I lie? Why would I lie?
Why would I, why would I lie?
Why would I lie? Why would I lie?
Why would I, why would I lie?

All eyes on me
Wrong emoji
Tristan is broke
Selling his Van Gogh

And when you're not around
I call your number endlessly
I tried a thousand times
I do regret I counted three

Didn't I tell you when?
Didn't I tell you when to settle?
Did-Didn't I tell you then?
Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I?

Ah it's not so Kosher
I got that picture at the zoo
I'll ride a vulture
You try to tell me what to do

Didn't I let you win?
Didn't I make it so much better?
Did-Didn't I let you win?
Didn't I, didn't I, didn't I?

All eyes on me, I said
What I mean, I say
All eyes on me, I said
I'm not that innocent
Why would I lie? Why would I lie?
Why would I, why would I lie?
Why would I lie? Why would I lie?
Why would I, why would I lie?

All eyes on me, I said
What I mean, I say
All eyes on me, I said
I'm not that innocent
Why would I lie? Why would I lie?
Why would I, why would I lie?
Why would I lie? Why would I lie?
Why would I, why would I lie?

I wanted your attention
So rolled up in your mansion
Find me in a new dimension
It's funny 'cause it wasn't me

My Elixir

The coast is clear

I cannot bend

Be in bed around ten

And you're not near

Am I lost when you're sincere

But I cannot let you in

We're both in tears

Look who doesn't, doesn't, doesn't, doesn't care

And grab the mistletoe

My elixir

You'd better not drink it

It brings you fear and nothing's sacred

If your dad says so

I'm about to know

No, no, no, no

Can we go home?

Can we go home?

Like I told you

Nobody knows you've failed the test

Found a picture on your bed

Add a wish up on your list

Somebody help me put up the fences

Burn all the bridges

Is there anybody else?

Is there anyone who cares?

And in your mirror

I might as well turn into a prop for you

So will you cross this new frontier?

It doesn't look so grim

When we're both in tears

Tell me anywhere is home

Can we go home?

Can we go home?

Identical

I don't just know you
I've grown like that too
(Identical, identical)
(Identical, identical)
If I don't dislike you
I'm withdrawn, unrighteous too
(Identical, identical)
(Identical, identical)
I don't just know you
But a red rose lies, peonies too
(Identical, identical) a caress can hide the lassitude
(Identical, identical)
In the same room, on the same night
I found you caught in the headlights
(Identical, identical) hold up to show your gratitude
(Identical, identical)

Un-forget, un-washed away
Can't forgive what you were
No god forbid to persuade
All your sins are counterfeit
I'll follow my own mistrial
I heard the echo this time
So why not discuss this headline
Now we're sitting on the same side of this aisle
Reflections on the protocol and reciprocity
Hey father, mother, daughter, here's another varsity
Gazing 'round the corner of the university
Can't call it out, but keep calling you out loud

Tell me you're trying, trying to regret
Playing all night those videotapes
I'm no prophet, I'm your friend
Take my advice, make your mistakes
I'm right beside you
Unfold that I know you
I'm told that it's my fault
I'd rather fall and lose control again

(Identical, identical)
(Identical, identical)
(Identical, identical)
(Identical, identical)

I'm losing my friend, I'm losing my grip
Praying all night to radio waves
I'm no prophet, I'm your friend
Take my advice, make your mistakes
