Sprung awake from his dream
Subconscious bliss taken away
Back to a world he thought he left behind
The moment his lids leaned and laid
This boy was only sixteen, mind you
He lied on his application
So as far as I knew, he just turned twenty-two
Fighting proudly for his nation
He came here to assess the situation
But he woke up to the sound of the end of the world
Just when he found out he was alive
To that lively grove went his soul
So long ago
For a while he's gonna rest his eyes
Good old Whatshisname
He volunteered to die
Eviscerated inside the tent he laid in
Surely from debris and fragments
The company was ordered
"If attacked, fall back and make damn sure
That you leave nothing standing"
So we happy few lined the building's walls with wire
At the weakest points in its design
Crammed a semtex or two into the corners of each room
Retreated to the trees and fired
Yesterday a home, today a pyre
Holding off invaders that made our home a crater
And now we're trekking forest floor
Gotta find a way back home
Oh fare thee well, my dear Bastogne
I don't think I can do this anymore
We woke up to the sound of the end of the world
Just when we found out we were alive
To that lively grove went our souls
So long ago
For a while we're gonna rest our eyes
For reasons of a cyclical kind
The war to end all wars realized
Every decade's takes a new disguise
All because Whatshisname volunteered to die
Send him home
