Shep - Be Like You Lyrics

I just wanna be like you
Be like you, I wanna be like you, yeah
Be like you
I just wanna be like you
Be like you
Wanna walk in a room
Where everybody knows my name, yeah

There once was a kid that lived by the lake
Wrote everything he thought down on a page
Nobody understands his state of mind
So he wants the world to hear what he's got to say
He wants the fame, he wants the buzz, he wants it all
But ain't nobody really feeling him, not at all
But he's thinking to himself, he's gone make it one day
He's a little bit better than everybody thought
He said, all it takes to be amazing is a little hard work and dedication
And if I live my life doing what I love, every day of my life is a vacation
And that's all that the kid could ask for
He wants the fame and to dive in the bags
He only wish he had time to rap more
He looks up at his idles and says

I just wanna be like you
I just wanna be like you
Wanna walk in a room, where everybody knows my name
Everybody plays my song and they know who I am
I just wanna be like you
I just wanna be like you
Wanna walk in a room, where everybody knows my name
Because don't nobody know who I am
Wanna be like you
I just wanna be like you
I just wanna be like you
Wanna walk in a room, where everybody knows my name
Everybody plays my song and they know who I am
I just wanna be like you
I just wanna be like you
Wanna walk in a room, where everybody knows my name
Because don't nobody know who I am
Wanna be like you

There once was a kid that said he had a dream
Started writing lyrics at the age of thirteen
Bottled every feeling that he had deep inside
Until he wrote it on the pages and got his mind clean
He just wanna be famous, everybody does
So they could listen to the words that he bottled up
Then he realized it's harder than it looks
Now the shy boy's begging for attention, he's fired up
He made a couple songs, and nobody liked them
Still he kept a thought, he'll make it despite them
He don't need a lot, because only the right friends
Really like the songs, that's why he writes them
He needs the world to appreciate everything he's bottled inside him
But it seems these days that nobody listens
So he writes a letter to his idle, he says

I just wanna be like you
I just wanna be like you
Wanna walk in a room, where everybody knows my name
Everybody plays my song and they know who I am
I just wanna be like you
I just wanna be like you
Wanna walk in a room, where everybody knows my name
Because don't nobody know who I am
Wanna be like you
I just wanna be like you
I just wanna be like you
Wanna walk in a room, where everybody knows my name
Everybody plays my song and they know who I am
I just wanna be like you
I just wanna be like you
Wanna walk in a room, where everybody knows my name
Because don't nobody know who I am
Wanna be like you

There once was a rapper that received a letter
Got the money and his rhyme schemes are clever
From a fan, it says, I wanna be like you because your life seems much better
But he didn't get the perspective
Of the fame and the top's point of view
You could guess that the kid's kind of reckless and gets a big head when he hops in the booth
He says that he raps to cope with life
But doesn't everybody say that now
He hopes that it happens overnight
But if it does, he's gone wish he slowed it down
He feels real important when his friends start calling and he hits decline
But you don't want it to happen to fast because when you're at the top you just miss the climb
He thought he'd write back to the kid
Because he don't want this kind of life
He thought about it for a minute
This is what he decides to write

I know, you just wanna be like me
You just wanna be like me
Wanna walk in a scene where everybody plays your song
Everybody plays your song and they know your name
But once you walk in fame, none of that can be changed
Not rearranged
When they all know your name
Don't nobody give you space
Wanna be like me
You don't wanna me like me
You don't wanna be like me
Nah, be yourself
Tell them you don't need no help
Tell them you don't need no help
You gone make this right
You gone get behind that mic
You gone spread a little bit of light
You gone make this right
You gone get behind that mic
You gone spread a little bit of light
Do what you love
It ain't all about who knows
It ain't all about who knows
Nah, you do you
Everything will fall in place
Everything will fall in place
Just be like you

I just wanna be like you
Be like you, I wanna be like you, yeah
Be like you
I just wanna be like you
Be like you
