Nirvana was an American rock band formed by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic
in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers,
the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990.
Despite releasing only three full-length studio albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana has come
to be regarded as one of the most influential and important rock bands of the modern era.
The band has sold over 25 million records in the United States alone, and over 75 million records worldwide,
making them one of the best-selling music artists in history.
They were inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, the band's first year of eligibility.

Quotes:
"There's definitely some pieces in there that reflect on my personal life, but really, they aren't as personal as everybody thinks they are. I would like them to be more personal. The emotions, the songs themselves are personal. I can't do it - I've tried to write personally and it just doesn't seem to work. It would be too obvious. Some things that you could read in could fit into anyone's life that had any amount of pain at all. It's pretty cliche'."
-Kurt Cobain on his lyrics
"At the end of the last couple of months when I was doing $400 worth every day, I was definitely noticing things about my memory and I knew that eventually my health would start getting a lot worse. It sounds like I don't regret it and I don't, but that's because I used it as a tool. I used it as a medication to get rid of a pain. And that's the biggest reason why I did it. In that sense, I don't regret it, but anybody else who's going to get addicted to drugs are obviously going to @#$%& up their lives eventually. If it doesn't take a year, it will be next year. I've seen it happen with every person that gets strung out. Drugs are bad for you. They will @#$%& you up.
-Kurt Cobain on heroin
"Punk is musical freedom. It's saying, doing and playing what you want. In Webster's terms, 'nirvana' means freedom from pain, suffering and the external world, and that's pretty close to my definition of Punk Rock."
Kurt Cobain
"We were just amazed we were putting out a record. We were, and are, still learning. But we've never cared much for professionalism as long as the energy was there. Like our live shows: We're out of tune and use a lot of feedback. That's not on purpose or because we don't care, we're just musically and rhythmically retarded and we play so hard that we can't tune our guitars fast enough."
Kurt Cobain
"Kurt chews bubble gum in his soul." -Courtney on Kurt's song writing
"I'm here to impeach a president and kill a soap opera star"- Krist
"The name of our band is pronounced "Nir-vah-nah", not "Nir-van-na" - Dave
"I was driving and 'Teen Spirit' came on the radio, and I thought 'God, that really sounds like
sh*t!'" -Dave Grohl
"So all of my comments tonight are out of a book: How to be Witty at Parties." -Chris
"We were staying in this house in Laurel Canyon with three mud-wrestling
girls for a week-and-a-half." --Dave
"I ate about 600 of them in a day, and I had an extreme feeling of beauty.
Those Mentos really work!" --Dave
"Y'know, maybe one percent, of the people who are listening to "Nevermind",
that ever bought "Nevermind", maybe not one percent, but I'm just saying that
this, um, a small minority of people who are listening to our record now,
know about punk rock. A lot of people don't know about punk rock ..they think
about punk rock and they think of that Quincy episode where the guy threw the
brick off the building, and..."
