Phantogram is an American electronic rock duo from Saratoga Springs, New York, formed in 2007
and consisting of Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel. They write and record in a remote barn in upstate
New York called Harmony Lodge. Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel were friends since junior high school.

Name Origin:
The band name was partially inspired by an optical illusion called a phantogram, in which two-dimensional images appear to be three-dimensional.
Sarah Barthel explained:
"We see ourselves as a 2 dimensional band making 3 dimensional sound. We wanted a name that was visually captivating with double meanings. A Phantogram to us before we even looked up the definition was a message from a ghost."
