Well it took two licks to change his mind, after I stepped down

Needed fuel near Omaha, both for ride and mind
Saw a stack of old CD's as a way to pass the time
Guy behind the counter said, these probably ain't for you
I grabbed a stack of five or six and said, "These ones will do."

Finally on a big town stage, opening the night
A couple thousand people, I got a little bit too high
My voice was really cracking and my knees were shaking fast
Somebody in the front row said, "These guys will never last."
So I picked up my guitar and I aimed it, straight at his head
