To let your ghost fly, leave the corpses to dust
To loosen the grip on the story you left me
In silence I'm learning to be in the hush
If I could call it what it is
Search through the pieces for poems
I'd write you a thousand versus
Etching out what's beyond flesh and bone
Could not have known the depth of the damage
That I'd hear the echos of years in your throat
That you were a shimmering desert oasis
With miles left for walking to learn what I wrote
What is the symbol for my love
Laid out in language and form
Prose in the columns and steeples
Is meaning the world's or my own
To tell it one way
Just holds down the edges and colors the days
Build a monument to time
By your gravity or by mine
Fly through till morning the summer is calling
Night worn like a cloak in the desert heat
But I will embrace the changing seasons
With my winter wisdom I will set you free
