Villajay Cartelli - Appalachia Lyrics

Villajay Cartelli - Appalachia Lyrics

I can hear the winds whispering through the pines,
Carrying voices of a more simple time,
Where the mist rolls down to the holler below,
And these old mountains hold secrets untold.

We had little, times were tough,
But we had each other, and that was enough,
Biscuits and gravy in a cast-iron pan,
Sittin' on the front porch, sweet tea in my hand.

Fetching water from a hand-dug well,
Outside this ol' shack, where we sit a spell.
Strumming the strings, I hear the church bells call
With cornbread on the table and room for all.

I walk these hallowed grounds, through the mountains
Through the towns, Every holler, every round,
Is just another lost and found.

The years have taken many, our kin have gone astray, but it's
Here in Appalachia were my heart will always stay.

There was grit, and struggle in those winding roads,
Yet we shared what little the earth bestowed,
Humble folk, in a harden place,
Living by the strength of God's good grace.

RC Cola, and a sweet moon pie, sittin by the crick watchin
The world go buy. Through the back roads, these hollers I stray,
Past the coal mines, were my ancestors lay.

I walk these hallowed grounds, through the mountains
Through the towns, Every holler, every round,
Is just another lost and found.

The years have taken many, our kin have gone astray, but it's
Here in Appalachia were my heart will always stay.

Riding trees on the mountain side, swinging far and
Wide from the old growth vines.
Stomp dancing to the rhythm, and time,
Running down mash, so our moon can shine.

Ready to fight for what's ours to keep,
In these hills where the past runs deep,
From the front porch swing we've seen it all,
In a place where time slows to a crawl.

Though I've wandered far and wide,
With the holler as my guide, I'll carry this mountain so divine,
For this blood is in my line.

I walk these hallowed grounds, through the mountains
Through the towns, Every holler, every round,
Is just another lost and found.
Every holler, every town, every town,
Ohhh it's just another lost and found

I've come back to where it all began,
For family, faith, and next of kin.
