Your Boys - Runnin' Lyrics

Your Boys - Runnin' Lyrics
Official

Why we keep on runnin'
From ourselves, and the truth man it's stunnin'
How we choose not to see what's going on
Everywhere I look things seem to be going wrong
Like the family in the streets
That can't pay the rent, cause inflation is a beast
Beggin' for a meal while others eatin' feast
And government don't feel for 'em even in the least
Cause they're too busy getting rid of women's rights
To choose to use their bodies to create another life
Erasing civil liberties with pen strokes in the night
Hoping that we take it and give up without a fight.
Well, I guess they don't know our spirit
So I'm a spit it clear and make sure that they hear it
To let the people know that a change is gonna come
Only if we stand up and choose not to run
You been runnin' for a long time
But you can't run from yourself
Just let the light in your heart shine
And you will find yourself
No runnin' away from the feeling
It's only yourself you deceiving
No runnin' away embrace your pain
Don't run away
Don't run away
But we keep on runnin'
From the hurt and the pain we numbin'
Dumbin' out, blowin' clouds, ganja that's hella strong
Another glass of whiskey and I won't have to think for long
About the suits up on the hill
Who's pockets line with money while there's bodies lying still
And parents wait for children who aint coming home from school
There'll probably be another shot before this verse is through
Or it could be the police with a bias to fulfill
They see a black man in the street, shoot to kill
Then turn around and claim self defense, yeah that's fair
Can't believe so many slain after all these thoughts and prayers
Now I apologize if this is messin up your chill
It's hard to be relaxed when we arm the mentally ill
Then act like these mass shootings were so unpredictable
Congress too busy stacking when they should passing bills
We're tired of being extorted, we just want to be supported
Tired of all the lies and the facts gettin distorted
Tired of the future for our planet lookin' morbid
Tired of our hopes and our dreams comin' up forfeit
I'm done, I wrote rhyme thinking about my son
Thinking about the world I want to leave him when I'm gone
Thinking about the trips I still got left around the Sun
So when he think about me he'll know Daddy didn't run
You been runnin' for a long time
But you can't run from yourself
Just let the light in your heart shine
And you will find yourself
No runnin' away from the feeling
It's only yourself you deceiving
No runnin' away embrace your pain
Don't run away
Don't run away
And I know what you're feeling
And I'm sure you can tell
That things stay the same
Until we change our ways
So can we put our guns down and say
Don't run away
Don't run away
