Yrbk - Island Lyrics

Yrbk - Island Lyrics

Sick of talking and expecting you to measure up
I don't got the time to waste if you won't level up
You're not an angel if you're playing with the devil's love
I've seen it happen one too many times and I've had enough
I put no faith in the fakes
Hard to trust a person if they're scared of making mistakes
I'm fulfilling my purpose cause I'm not wasting my grace
Complacency will seal your fate if you're not chasing the face of breaking the rules
Not trying to be cool
Don't need no shiny jewels
To prove to you that I'm true
I'm as real gets
I'm here for music and checks
I can show off my strength without ever having to flex
My life is a f*ckin mess but still I make it work
Masetti taught me well, I know it could always be worse
Going harder when it hurts
So I can reap the love I sow
No one can break your spirit when you're the one in control
Better know

I've been living fine on my island
Logging off my life and finding solace in the silence
I'm never entertained by the violence
Or anything worrisome livin inside of my eyelids
I'm smiling without a sound
Seeing how much I lost myself was the best thing that I found and now
Every single day I'm reminded
That I got more than just luck being stuck on my island

Nervous that I never would of fit
Thought that I'd be better off if I just gave it up and quit
Felt like every song I wrote was the farthest thing from a hit
The doubt that I had with music bled to everything I did
And I dipped into a deeper depression than I intended
Grew up in a society so easily offended
By the words I would've said if I didn't keep myself quiet
And so I reside in silence in the caves beneath my island
I would write
Creating my own heaven
Because of that I haven't rested since 2007
Eleven years in the making
My heart was slowly breaking
Taking chances when it seemed like all of my options were fading
I was patient
Sacrificed adolescence for the growth
Crazy what you can accomplish when you ditch the hate for hope
I needed a place to cope
And this island made me see it
All those years wishing for change when all I had to do was be it

I've been living fine on my island
Logging off my life and finding solace in the silence
I'm never entertained by the violence
Or anything worrisome livin inside of my eyelids
I'm smiling without a sound
Seeing how much I lost myself was the best thing that I found and now
Every single day I'm reminded
That I got more than just luck being stuck on my island

This world has always tried to skew my placement
My concrete decisions allowed my days to not be wasted
Chasing what wasn't promised
Brothers became dishonest
Comets were flying into my ozone dropping composites
Of carefully crafted chaos
Continuous and redundant
My thoughts would have me laying in my coffin always wondering
Punching holes in my amygdala
Stripping my hippocampus
If I would've let it stretch any longer I could've vanished
My panic attacks were strong but not strong enough to defeat me
Anyone that wants a piece of greatness knows it isn't easy
The friends I had to abandon
Positions I had to stand in
Branded myself to show that nothing that I had was handed
I demanded my respect after a decade of commitment
Then I quickly saw the value in who does and doesn't listen
Cause even if I spend the rest of time up on a shelf
I'll be happy when I pass because I did it for myself and no one else

I've been living fine on my island
Logging off my life and finding solace in the silence
I'm never entertained by the violence
Or anything worrisome livin inside of my eyelids
I'm smiling without a sound
Seeing how much I lost myself was the best thing that I found and now
Every single day I'm reminded
That I got more than just luck being stuck on my island
